Who is Jesus Christ?

No person in history has been more loved, more discussed, or more misunderstood than Jesus of Nazareth. Teacher? Prophet? Good man? The Bible's answer goes far beyond all of these: Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, the Savior of the world, and the living Lord. Here is what Scripture says about Him.

He is God the Son

Jesus did not begin in Bethlehem. The Bible teaches that He is the eternal Word of God, who was with God in the beginning — and who is God — through whom all things were made.

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God… And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.” — John 1:1, 14 (NKJV)

In Jesus, the invisible God became visible. He is not one way among many to know God; He is God come to us.

He lived the life we could not live

Born of the virgin Mary, Jesus lived a fully human life — He grew, hungered, wept, and was tempted in every way as we are. Yet unlike any other person who ever lived, He never sinned. His perfect life qualified Him to stand in our place.

“For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.” — Hebrews 4:15 (NKJV)

He died on the cross for our sins

The cross was not an accident or a defeat. Jesus said He came “to give His life a ransom for many” (Mark 10:45). On the cross He willingly bore the judgment our sins deserved, so that everyone who trusts in Him could be forgiven and made right with God.

“But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed.” — Isaiah 53:5 (NKJV)

Notice what that verse says: peace and healing flow from the cross. Jesus is not only our Savior but our Healer — in His earthly ministry He healed all who came to Him, and He is the same yesterday, today, and forever (Hebrews 13:8). We can still bring Him our sickness and brokenness in believing prayer.

He rose from the dead — and He is alive

On the third day, the tomb was empty. Jesus rose bodily from the grave and appeared to His disciples and to hundreds of witnesses. The resurrection is the foundation of the Christian faith: it proves that His sacrifice was accepted, that death is defeated, and that He is exactly who He claimed to be.

“I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in Me, though he may die, he shall live.” — John 11:25 (NKJV)

He baptizes with the Holy Spirit

John the Baptist announced this ministry of Jesus before it began:

“I indeed baptize you with water; but One mightier than I is coming… He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire.” — Luke 3:16 (NKJV)

On the day of Pentecost, the risen Jesus poured out the Holy Spirit on His waiting disciples (Acts 2:1–4), and they were filled with power to witness, to pray, and to live holy lives. That promise did not expire with the first church — it “is to you and to your children, and to all who are afar off” (Acts 2:39). Jesus still fills believers with His Spirit today.

He is Lord of all — and He is coming again

Jesus is not merely a figure of the past. He ascended to heaven, He reigns today, and He has promised to return for those who are His (John 14:3). God has exalted Him above every name, and one day every knee will bow before Him.

“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow… and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord.” — Philippians 2:9–11 (NKJV)

What does He mean for you?

Jesus made a claim that leaves no middle ground:

“I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” — John 14:6 (NKJV)

If that is true — and the empty tomb says it is — then knowing Jesus Christ is the most important matter in your life. He offers you forgiveness of sins, peace with God, and eternal life. Not as a reward to be earned, but as a gift to be received by faith.

Come to Him today

Jesus turns away no one who comes to Him. Begin with a simple, sincere prayer.
