Bringing fears to God
Read Psalm 23 with an adult and talk about trust, care and seeking help.
Understand
Read Psalm 23 from your Bible with a trusted adult. The psalm uses a shepherd and sheep to describe care and trust. Ask what a shepherd does, then notice the psalm's images of guidance, rest and companionship. These are pictures that help us think about God's care; they do not mean that people are literally sheep.
The psalm also speaks about a dark valley. Trust in God does not mean we never feel afraid, sad or uncertain. We can speak honestly to God and ask people we trust for help. Nothing in this study promises that saying a prayer makes every problem disappear immediately.
Choose one image from the psalm and describe it in your own words or draw it on paper. An adult can help explain something difficult. If a fear involves someone hurting you or a situation that feels unsafe, tell a trusted adult and seek appropriate help. You do not need to tell the website what happened. Prayer, Scripture and safe human support can accompany one another.
Reflect
Which image helps you think about care?
What question would you like to ask an adult?
Who is a safe person you can ask for help?
