Kindness on the road
Explore Jesus’ good Samaritan parable and a safe, practical act of care.
Understand
Read Luke 10:25–37 together. Jesus tells a parable during a conversation about loving God and our neighbor. A traveler is hurt, and different people respond. Look for what the Samaritan actually does: his compassion becomes practical help. The story is Jesus' teaching, not a reason to invent extra dialogue or details.
Jesus asks a question about being a neighbor. Instead of looking for excuses to ignore someone, we can ask how to show mercy. Helping is more than saying kind words when a safe, useful action is possible. A child's help may be telling a trusted adult that someone needs care, offering a seat or listening patiently.
This passage does not ask children to approach danger, give strangers personal information or handle an emergency alone. If someone is hurt, seek a trusted adult and appropriate emergency help. Love and wise care belong together. Read the end of the conversation again and discuss one act of kindness that fits your circumstances.
