Scripture & Context

Understand

John 20:1–18 records Mary Magdalene finding the tomb open, reporting it to the disciples and later remaining there in tears. She did not at first recognize the risen Jesus. When He addressed her, she recognized Him, and He sent her with a message to the disciples.

Christ's bodily resurrection is the heart of this encouragement. Mary's sorrow and confusion did not erase her place in the account; the risen Lord gave her news to carry. John 20:30–31 explains that the signs recorded in the Gospel call readers to believe in Jesus Christ and receive life in His name.

Read the account and consider how the living Christ grounds your hope when circumstances are difficult. Share what Scripture actually says about His resurrection, and offer patient companionship to someone who grieves. Christian hope rests in Him, not in achieving a particular emotional response.

Pause & Consider

Reflect

How does Mary move from weeping to recognizing the risen Lord?
What message is she given to take to the disciples?
How does Jesus' resurrection strengthen your hope and witness?

Faithful Practice

Live

Read John 20:1–18, then 20:30–31. Encourage someone with the truth that Jesus Christ is risen. Listen patiently to grief and share Scripture without pressuring anyone to hide sorrow.
